Leaving Cert Shreds Nerves
The days thousands have been dreading for months or even years finally arrived .
The leaving certificate has begun and little darlings throughout the land started the annual ordeal with the English paper today. SSN spoke to some of them outside an exam centre in Summerhill, Sligo earlier today.
Annette (38) from Collooney – “I haven’t been able to sleep properly for the last month, my nerves are gone at this stage. Can you believe there’s another 22 days of this hell?”
Mary (40) from Ballysadare – “I’ve bitten my nails down to the quick. I’ve got such bad anxiety my doctor has put me on a range of pills. I can’t go on like this. What does the future hold?”
John (40) from Ballytivnan – “I’m dreading maths, that’s tomorrow I think. One day runs into the other at this stage, I don’t know where I am. It’s just too much pressure, I’ll have to have a brandy or two.”
We finally spoke to a student after the first session and asked him how it went – Evan (17) “Uhh! Huh! I don’t know, it was no bother I guess,” he mumbled.
