Lidl II – Crowds Flock to Second Store
The popular budget supermarket chain has opened a second store in Sligo. The outlet is located in the now restored Lyons Terrace Mill building in Finisklin.
It will cater for the people on the other side of the town. It’s the 158th store in the chain and will employ 25 people and at some stage will incorporate a restaurant.
We mingled with shoppers to see what they thought of the brand new store.
Mary O’Reilly had just spent €250 when we caught up with her – “Look at all this stuff,” she beamed “I wouldn’t normally spend this much. I only came in for a look but I got car seat covers, a battery charger, one of those jacks that you’d normally see in a garage, a dash cam and a set of wheel trims. Brilliant.” This SligoSligoNews reporter offered to help her out to her car with the haul. “Oh! I don’t have a car, I just can’t resist a bargain,” she laughed before she set off with the trolley through the streets of Sligo.
“I’m seeing double,” joked Seamie (last name withheld) “it’s got the exact same stuff as the other one beyont in Cranmore.”
Sean Cronin remarked that there was no difference between the check outs at this store and the other one – “There was only one till open when I joined the queue and they didn’t open the second one for a good fifteen minutes.”
Some locals were overheard taunting Bundoran with the chant “we’ve got two of them and you only have one.” Hurtful stuff.
