Sad Panda Story – A Lesson for Humanity
There was very sad news reported recently from Edinburgh zoo as their panda breeding programme failed at the sixth attempt.
Extinction
Not only is it sad for the zoo, but yet again, it serves to highlight the issue of species decline and species extinction. Humans are the main cause of this change in biodiversity which is mainly due to climate change (and overpopulation – there’s now 7 billion of us).
Extinction
It’s a huge problem that we should be facing up to, not denying – like some world leaders. The loss of every species upsets the balance and that’s not good. Earth is losing species at a rate between 1000 and 10000 per year. It’s frightening really when you take the time to think about it. It’s actually happening faster than natural extinction.
Panda
Panda’s are notoriously either shy or uninterested in sex. Maybe they don’t know they could be in trouble (but not in that way – sadly). A spokesperson for the zoo said artificial insemination didn’t work and the result was there for all to see in black and white.
