Sligo Zoo to Close?
Sligo’s only zoo – located in Cloonloo, south Sligo will be forced to close unless someone steps in to save it.
The zoo which has been home to exotic creature such as snakes, mice, tarantulas and lizards was apparently very popular with visitors. According to one nosey neighbour “people were calling at all times of the day and night to see the animals”.
It seems that it will now have to close because of the heavy handed actions of the authorities. “It brought a lot of people to the area and that has to be a good thing,” said a local who wanted to remain anonymous. “Who would have known that our zoo would be so popular? The Gardai in their single-minded pursuit of drugs have destroyed what could have become a much needed lifeline for the local community. Sure what about the jobs that have been destroyed?” he asked.
A local mother asked “doesn’t anyone think of the children in Ireland these days”. Students at the local school have started a petition with the catchy phrase “Get the zoo back to Cloonloo”. A march is being organised for next Friday and it’s hoped that everyone will come out in support.
The Gardai were unable and unwilling to comment.
