Washing Machines Recalled
The domestic/utility side of a lot of Irish households was thrown into a spin today when it was announced that washing machine manufacturer Whirlpool issued a recall for 11,000 Hotpoint and Indesit machines.
Unbelievably this was because of the risk of the machines going on fire – how ridiculous does that sound. They’re bleeding machines that use water. Half a million are affected in the UK and it applies to those made between 2014 and 2018.
Johnnie is a native of Tubbercurry and this morning he drove the wife to Sligo in his tractor so she could do a bit of shopping. We asked him about the washing machine recalls. Once he started he wouldn’t shut up. He spoke to us at length about an old twin tub that got his shirts really clean. Before that he remembered a single tub with a wringer attached where you could wring excess water out of your clothes. Good man Johnnie.
Whirlpool said people can have a free replacement or repair and this should be happening in January. But people can still use their washing machines if they set them for a cold wash – below 20c. We expect that it will all come out in the wash in time and that these kind of things always go around in cycles.
